Which way does your ladder face?

So here is the deal, we had a business lunch yesterday with a really cool entrepreneur who goes through life trying to soak in as much "good truth" as possible. Matt and I were able to give him some insight on how we go through our daily lives trying to improve our marriage, our parenting and of course increasing the household income (who isn't trying to increase this one?) and he was able to share his success' with us...and yes this was a business meeting :)

Anyway, in the meeting he said something that has embedded itself in my brain and won't detach until I talk about it. Remember when I said this blog thing is sometimes better than talking to actual people...case and point... here we go...

"Before you judge people make sure that your ladder is horizontal".

Juvenile, right? The old "Don't judge a book by its cover" and "Before you judge someone, take a walk in their shoes" comes to mind when I think of this. But this is different, maybe because I haven't heard the underlying message said in this context. So why has this made a home in my brain? A few reasons, one being that we ALL need a refresher in how we should treat others (remember the 3 R's in grade school?...how can you forget them if you were in my class, they were on a perfectly lined bright white piece of poster board all spelled out in Glitter Gold paint...thanks Mrs. Good!) Anyway it's kind of like that, it stared at us daily and as we get older the message isn't so bold and clear (or glittery), so a reminder every once in awhile is nice.

The message...
Think of everyone as if we were all on a step of a ladder...now turn the ladder so it is horizontal. When you look at a person remember that your job, your money, your "class", your race or your religion doesn't make you above them or below them...it just makes you on a different step. YOU are not above anybody and vice verse. We all have our own step on this ladder (life) but we are all at equal starting and ending points. I know still juvenile but a great refresher!

Sorry, my soap box was getting rusty I just thought it needed a dusting.

Thanks for reading...listening

Hello & Goodbye to Sum•mer

sum·mer 1 ˈsəmər/ noun 1 .  the warmest season of the year, in the northern hemisphere from June to August and in the southern hemisphere from December to February. I just wanted to give myself a second to really think about this thing called summer. Anyone else think this definition is just a little bit vague? It's that time of year where we get all excited to have ZERO schedule, endless electronics, the chance to travel and cram in all of the fun you planned for all year long. Then when this so called "summer" ends, you feel bamboozled, like someone just waved that 4th of July pie you went to that party to specifically eat, right in front of your face only to look...not eat. Like seriously, it was here, right in front of my face, and now... it's gone. Now, now we pack lunch every night, we get our homework in (which I don't even understand), we figure out which parent is going to be the taxi for the day, we actually have to ...

She Turned 7!

SEVEN, she did it again... who does she think she is trying to get another year older on us. In all seriousness, she is SEVEN. Like, what happened to 5 and 6? Let me tell you what 7 looks like on my little Pripri... Just a few things about this girl 1. Guess who her favorite person is...duh. Micah 2. She is soooo much more compassionate and caring than I could have ever imagined. 3. She might be 7, however her attitude screams teen! She is sensitive but oh so brave and she is never afraid to take on new adventures! 4. Her best friend is still, you guessed it, Maggie. 5. Right now she is playing softball (second season) and is having a ton of fun. Cheerleading is still on her brain, but for now, we will stick with this. 6. When she laughs, you can't help but laugh with her. Her laugh alone will make you light up. 7. Her favorite things include: Unicorns, Bear (her pink one), Unicorns, Mermaids, those fake glasses (see pic below), her American Girl Doll (pic above), Uni...

The Big Apple

{deep breath}… We did it, we made it, and we are still alive to talk about it… We made it to and from New York City with our sanity in hand! Actually we got back on the 11th of October but it has taken me a few weeks to recover from the trip, I needed a little space between me and NYC, and now that I am feeling whole again I am ready to revisit our trip. When Matt and I were invited to my college teammates wedding in NYC there was NO WAY I was missing it. For one, she’s amazing and I was soooo pumped for her, and 2… it’s NYC! My only discrepancy was to take the kids or to leave them. Well when we asked my parents if they would be willing to take them while we were away, it turned into “sure we will watch them… in NYC!” So there it was the making of a weeklong family trip to the big apple. For those of you who know how type “A” I am, I am sure you could imagine how overwhelmed I became in thinking of all the things we were going to do while we visited, so when mom and dad said we...
