This past Mother's Day is one f0r the books!
Background first...
A little over a week and a half before Mother's Day, Micah had gotten sick, the temp, the crying the poops the hole 9 yards! It took him a while to bounce back but of course he did, he just had a nagging cough with mucus. So I was thankful that he was going to be good to go by Mother's Day!
Mother's Day...
...The day started off AMAZING. Micah slept in until 8, and Matt made me my favorite breakfast (Eggs Benedict). As we all sat at the table (Micah's in his bog boy chair now) Micah was munching on a potato and choked a little bit and before I could get up to help him my hand was full of the breakfast he had just eaten and the table and chair were covered! Poor guy it was his first bonafied throw up...projectile and all (sorry to be so graphic). He was stunned and didn't really know how to react other than a surprised scared look on his face followed by crying. Well we chalked it up and didn't worry that he was sick, just that he had choked on the potato. Sure enough he was back to himself running around like a mad man. We got ready to meet Mom, Grandma and some other relatives at Sushi for brunch and Micah was good to go. We all got settled and begin digging in, Micah included. He had enough strawberries and watermelon for two! Then the unthinkable, the same choke I heard at home just a few hours earlier was back and sure enough I found myself holding the strawberries and watermelon he had just ate. Just like the morning, his chair and the floor were covered in red...yuck! We immediately got him undressed and into the car, and his "I am tired of throwing up and need to take a nap" look broke my heart. We went home a he took a long nap, woke up and came to take an even longer nap in my arms. The evening didn't get much better for him as he threw up 2 more times while Mom and Dad were visiting. We finally got him to bed with medicine, he bounced back 2 days later and is back to normal...running around playing, dancing and throwing a fit here and there.
...FYI...I called his pediatrician that day to ask what kind of medicine I should give him. He didn't have a fever and he wasn't the "normal" sick. She had just said that when toddlers are on the tail end of a bad sickness their mucus tends to thicken up which causes them to choke and gag, his body just had had enough and the gag reflex kicked into action.
So, Mother's Day 2009 was also "Welcome to the Sick Side of Motherhood" day. I have to admit that when he was sleeping in my arms despite how he was feeling was the best gift, I can't tell you how much I cherish those moments.
To all you Mother's...I hope you had a wonderful day and to my mother...Thank you for being the greatest mother in the WORLD!
Motherhood has a very humanizing effect. Everything gets reduced to essentials.
